Getting Reading for the Seymour Dig

I started off with the air scribe this week. On the left of the bone where the white lines are is the part of the bone that was exposed when I started.

And this is how the bone looked when I finished before lunch.

After lunch we went upstairs to back for our dig in the Texas Red Beds of Seymour, TX next week.

While the were up on the 4th floor we finished the mold of Dipsy's hip.

Then we went back downstairs and I used the engraver to write HMNS on all the tools for next week.

This is all the labeled tools for next week's trip.

That's a Wrap on My Jacket

This is my finished jacket without the vertebrae because they were drying.

Since I was done I put the vertebrae back in the jacket and wrapped it up. That's a rap on my first jacket.

Once I was done on my jacket I got to try out the air scribe to remove the caliche from some of the bone laying around the lab. That's basically a mini jackhammer that looks like a pen with a metal tip that blows air through it. I found it very calming to work with under the microscope.

Here the brown is the caliche and the red is the actual fossilized bone.
